Drilling Correction

This method of balancing customer-specific parts utilizes a drilling process to remove metal for part correction. This process can be accomplished in a vertical or horizontal attitude, and use any number of dfferent drill types and diameters. The appropriate configuration will depend on specific part and production process requirements. Typical parts utilizing this process include crankshafts, engine dampers, and other rotating members with sufficient metal thickness to allow drilling without compromising component integrity.

 

 

 

MQL Drilling

A newer technology used with great success on many of our machines is Minimum Quantity Lubrication ('MQL') drilling. Rather than pumping large quantities of coolant onto the part as necessary during a normal drilling operation, the MQL method forces small quantities of coolant through the drilling tool and directly into the drill hole during correction. This method allows faster drill speeds, resulting in shorter cycle times and enhanced formation and extraction of drilling chips. The overall drilling process is much cleaner. MQL has become the preferred method employed by Balance Engineering on our machines using drilling correction.
